Vegetarian Date? Go Greens at Scout Castor, Tomas Morato

Greens at Tomas Morato is a vegetarian restaurant that has great ambiance and worth taking a date if you want to give off the indie/health-buff image. It is an organic cafe that serves vegetarian fare and has quite an average menu.

The entrance – quite quaint and well… green

Charming Greens – like dining at your (vegetarian) aunt’s

Cozy interiors add even more allure
Greens makes you feel like you’re eating in the middle of Fern Gully. The area is lush with wood, metal, and of course green decor – perfect to set the mood for a candlelight meal. And no, it’s not dengue waiting to happen – hardly any mosquitoes or any other insects dwell, as a matter of fact.
Once you get inside, the palce will impress you even more – it looks like somebody’s house renovated to make it greener and at the same time comfortable. Low lights and colorful window panes work together to give you more save-the-earth drive.
Menu
The menu is quite average – strangely I wished I had more items to choose from. However, reading the items on the menu, it doesn’t sound vegetarian. That’s because everything is made of vegemeal – event the burgers and pastels.
Anyway, we got the Pumpkin Soup (P50), Mushroom Tofu Burger (P80), Pastel de Vegetal (P105) and some Corn Coffee (P50).

Not so good Pumpkin Soup (P50)
The pumpkin soup frankly tasted like ginger. There was just too much ginger on the soup, it was like eating orange ginger porridge. I wouldn’t get this next time.

The Tofu Burger with fries(P85)
The mushroom tofu burger tasted so bland, we piged out on the siding of fries instead. Salt is still organic right? Also, we always eat at Blissful Belly along Katipunan and the food, though very much vegetarian, tastes like something.

Pastel Vegetal with Brown Rice and Pickled Vegetables (P105)
I sampled my pastel underneath the rock-hard baked crust cover and at least it tasted like something. The brown rice that came with my pastel were plentiful and went well with my pastel.
My date ordered some corn coffee and it tasted like hot water and smelled like burnt corn. It wasn’t that bad, but it cost us P50 and I would rather get some fruit shake instead.
If you noticed everything is very very cheap. It was almost embarrassing to be paying such a small amount in such a date-y place, but then again the food left me wanting a lot, so I guess you can’t have everything.
The conclusion: Greens is a pretty place to date in, but the food doesn’t quite match up to the beauty of the place.
It’s very cheap. Expect to shell out about P200-P250 for an entrée and a drink.
Please don’t take your date here if you’re starved and in for eating good food – it’s best for a nightcap.
