Attending the 2009 Nuffnang Blog awards gave me a rare chance to stay in a cute and quaint hotel in Tiong Bahru (Singapore) called Link Hotel. Admittedly I didn’t know what kind of hotel it was going to be, but I was pleasantly surprised seeing it was very nice and modern.

ambiance review

Singapore’s Link Hotel is quite the boutique hotel – they mention that they are Singapore’s largest boutique hotel and getting inside it was just such – small rooms, zen feel, modern amenities. It reminds me of The Boutique Bed and Breakfast Hotel in Tagaytay.

I got a superior room that the website said came in four themes – Chinese, Indian, Malay and Modern. I think my room was in Chinese theme – the pillows were red with Chinese characters. Keycards were given for everyone – good thing I had the room to myself. The room had the following features and amenities:

- a nice zen bathroom with a hairdryer

- a safe, minibar, flatscreen tv, pretty pillows, water heater, drinking water, outlets. The miibar had an assortment of canned juices, soft drinks, a Pringles can and a Kitkat. Which is not so much.

- a LAN connection

- the usual freebies: toiletries, a sewing kit, slippers and a laundry bag

Here is the  full room amenities.

I didn’t even need wifi :) Although if I wanted one, I can access it from the lobby.

It looks like it was fully packed – we really had to wait until 2 pm to get a room, which rarely happens in other hotels I’ve stayed in – we usually can get a room at around noon.

Anyway, one of the staff is Pinoy and very cordial. The rest are Singaporean and speak little English.

I cooked myself a Nissin cup noodle with the hot water maker and made tea with Splenda (which I hope is free).

budget

So far, quite satisfied with the room and the place.  I got the hotel for free, but if you book I think the Superior Room costs around SGD 280 (P8,400), in line with the boutique hotel rates in the country. However, the boutique hotels in Tagaytay usually include wine and cheese tasting, milk and cookies, and a bigger room, so I guess that’s fine. That would be the equivalent of an Executive Suite, which costs SGD 600 here.

tip

Because room service is quite expensive, I suggest bringing your own food inside the hotel – there are lots of restaurants nearby, mostly Chinese. But 2 blocks away there is a mall with a food court that will give you a choice of different cuisines, ranging from the familiar to the exotic.
