Digital 3D Cinema at SM

The best way to enjoy an animated film is to watch it on an IMAX 3D cinema. Few in the world know, however, that there are actually 2 types of IMAX – the normal gigantic IMAX where the screens are projected on humongous screens (and you can only find it in SM Mall of Asia and SM North EDSA here), and the digital 3d cinema where the screen size is normal, but the images actually look sharper because it is digitally rendered.

In other countries, these 2 IMAX types are priced the same, and some patrons have actually complained. They see the small digital screen and, although it’s in 3d, feel cheated since they expect an IMAX theater to be the gigantic screens they’ve been reading about. The result: they called the smaller IMAX “digital 3d“.

Fast forward here in the Philippines, it looks like SM learned this lesson and never branded their Cinema 1s as IMAX technology. A great deal that comes out of this – the digital 3d theater actually priced lower than the normal IMAX, even as it delivers BETTER quality!

The rendering is superb and awe-inspiring. In the recent movie we watched (Disey Pixar’s “Up“), the 3d effets were so pronounced on the digital screen, my usually blase date dropped her jaw.

Be sure to watch Up in digital 3d!

Unfortunately, so that SM can recover the cheaper price for this IMAX, the cinema only has guaranteed seats (instead of regular IMAX reserved seating). But just come early on screening time and you’ll appreciate the priceless beauty of digital 3d.

Don’t forget to catch “Up” – bring a lot of tissues, too. It’s ultimately heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny, and this time the movie is fit for both kids and adults as well.

Digital 3d is available at SMMegamall Cinema 1, SM the Block Cinema 1, Trinoma and Gateway Cinema 5.
