Saturday, January 23, 2010, Cynthia Alexander with Tao Aves opening will be caught at Conspiracy, 59 Visayas Avenue, Quezon City. It will be wonderful night of lovely music and vocals from two of my favorite artists!

Conspiracy is a great cafe, with a nice garden and a nice lobby with (usually) an exhibit. The inside room is spaceous and has good acoustics.

Just be careful at the garden – some mosquitoes can sting lol!

For the queasy, it will be good to note that the event will most probably be smoke-free (at least inside) – Cynthia always imposes a smoking ban on her gigs. But the lovely (andclean!) atnmosphere will surely make you and your date swoon over each other.

For those who are not familiar, Tao Aves is the daughter of much-talented musicians Grace Nono and Bob Aves. She has a voice like you wouldn’t believe it. I guarantee your date will love you just for bringing him or her to listen to Tao. Just to entice you, here is a sample:

If you don’t know Cynthia Alexander, then I’d have to ask you what rock and in which planet you have been hiding from. She is one of the most revered and talented musicians of Philippine indie music scene. She rarely plays nowadays, so it is a real treasure to hear her.

Yes it is TRUE! The Backstreet Boys are back in Manila for a 2010 concert slated on February 27, 2010 at the Araneta Coliseum!

Although they are coming minus one member (Kevin), now is the time to watch the Backstreet Boy’s Howie, AJ, Nick and Bryan with your date – if you were both 90s babies – as this could be their last concert here, or the last you’ll see them at the borderlines of youth.

If you’re an early planner and already thinking about the ultimate Valentine’s date for 2010, Rent Manila (the Musical) is the date of the year. Woe the losers who will not be able to take their date to this spectacular theater show showing on February 14, 2010, 8pm at the RCBC Theater, Makati City.

Gian Magdangal leads the cast as songwriter Roger Davis, with Fred Lo as filmmaker Mark and Nicole Laurel Asensio as dancer Mimi. Cara Barredo will also perform Mimi at certain performances.

The cast will also feature OJ Mariano as Tom Collins, Carla Guevara-Laforteza as Maureen Johnson, Noel Rayos as Benny, Job Bautista as Angel Schunard and Jenny Villegas as Joanne.

Here’s the classic “Seasons of Love” that will surely inspire you to watch!

The Podium’s Cinema/Movie house is small and cozy – like a private screening. It probably seats just around 150 people and there is just one level. It’s not as expensive as you think – it’s about the same price as the Megamall or other SM malls high-end cinemas – about P150 per person.

Actually the screen isn’t digital too, the pleasant thing about watching here is that there will only be about 5-10 of you inside the theater, and the privacy and space is welcoming. Feel free to put your feet up – the place is not as snobby as you think.

I’d take The Podium’s Cinema anytime over The New Eastwood Mall Cinema (click to find out why), SM North Edsa’s The Block, and Rockwell anytime, but perhaps I’d go for the old Eastwood Cinema as a better alternative.

Around P150-P160 per person (depending on the movie), add P100 per person for an in-movie snack. There’s gelato across for a sweet snack, or the healthier Yogurbud 2 floors below.
